Major viewpoints of Health Sciences of Mind and Body

Knowledge for well-being

Health Sciences of Mind and Body integrates various branches of science that deal with life, human beings, health, and the mind , and places a high value on the “quality of life” or a way of living that allows a person to “live optimally as a human being.” That is why we advocate “knowledge for well-being” as a practical knowledge that can be applied in daily life to obtain “information and ideas that allow one to choose behaviors that promote well-being,” along with “autonomy and self-responsibility.”

Life promotion

This is a new concept for independently increasing ① appropriate judgment and choices, ② betterment of one’s own health and quality of life ③ improvement the trajectory of one’s life. These are all based on an understanding of “knowledge for well-being” offered by Health Sciences of Mind and Body.

Mind-body correlation

Health Sciences of Mind and Body views the human being as an entity in which the mind and body have a mutual organic interaction. Our aim is that everyone living today will understand and incorporate this perspective to realize self-betterment (life promotion) from the scientific elucidation of the mind-body correlation. An interdisciplinary comprehensive approach is taken in the scientific elucidation of the mind-body correlation in human beings because this is a complex interaction of factors including evolution, embryology, the brain, life cycles, culture and social environment.

Self-reliance & interdependence

Mari Kusumi defines “self-reliance” and “interdependence” as follows: “Self-reliance is to stand on one’ s own feet, to think with one’ s own head, to feel with one’ s own heart, and to live intentionally and passionately.” “Interdependence is to cherish and have gratitud e for everything in this time of constant and never-ending change, to be deeply respectful and mutually supportive, and together fulfill the responsibilities of living our lives.”
