CAMPUS LIFE

An expansive virtual university

Moving toward the multimedia generation of the twenty-first century,
our school is putting in place an education system taking full advantage of
multimedia as the foundation of a new stage in distance learning. Distance
learners have few opportunities to attend face-to-face lectures. This is one
of the greatest advantages of distance education as they are relatively free
to study anytime and anywhere they want. On the other hand, many learners
feel isolation from school. It is vital to communicate with faculty and other
students in order to deepen knowledge and promote motivation. This is the
main reason for the development of the "virtual university" system.

The "virtual universit" system applies the latest Internet technology
and reproduces the school building faithfully with 3D graphics. Students
are given an ID password for access to the "virtual university" system when
they are enrolled into the school. Students download an exclusive browser
and install it in their PCs. In the "virtual campus", students are able to
communicate by text with professors, staff as well as other students employing
a system called "chat". They can also have vocal communication using a built-in
microphone and speaker or a headset. A member of the office staff is on the
"virtual campus" from 9:00am to 5:00pm and gives advice to students on school life.
To meet the students' request, it has been planned to have a cyber-classroom in
which students ask questions about their studies to professors. Furthermore, there
is a plan to introduce an Internet seminar facility in the near future.

The isolated image of traditional distance education has been changing by the
educational applications of information technology such as the "virtual university"
system. Our school will make further efforts to be a pioneer in the development of
new methodologies and technologies applied to education in order to improve
lifelong learning.
