 The Japanese Society of Health Sciences of Mind and Body

The Japan Society of Health Sciences of Mind and Body was established in February 2005. It has so far convened academic conventions on 11 occasions and has published its academic journal, the Journal of Health Sciences of Mind and Body, up to volume six, edition one. It has approximately 600 members (as of July 2010),

centered on past and present teachers and students from faculties in the University of Human Arts and Science and the Graduate School, but the number of members unconnected to our University are increasing every year.

In addition to investigating the mind-body relationship, which is the central core of health sciences of mind and body, the aim of the society is also to carry out research, education, and information exchange for the scientifi c development and application of knowledge to promote better health.

The society also provides an opportunity for our University,s current students and graduates to further deepen the knowledge they have learnt as undergraduate or postgraduate students. At the same time, students find the society to be useful venue for practicing presentations of their research and the society,s activities are becoming more and diverse.

Moreover, a significant aspect of the society,s activities is training students to be Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisors and certifying students to use this title.

The society›s journal

The society holds a convention and general meeting twice a year, and each time research presentations are given according to the theme of the meeting.

Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisors

In order to be certifi ed to use the society,s title of Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisor, the student must study a specified curriculum designated by the Japan Society of Health Sciences of Mind and Body, and pass the qualifying examination. Already 197 students have successfully been certifi ed as Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisors.

The modern day society we live in is increasingly complex, and we experience stress from a variety of sources, whether from human relationships or our living environment. As a result, an increasing number of people are suff ering from lifestyle-related diseases, anxiety disorders, and depression. Based on the mutual connections between the mind and body, the Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisor takes cultural and social perspectives to provide appropriate advice to people living in our modern societies who are suffering from psychological or physical stress. The goal is to return the people they advise to full health, to help them create rich human relationships, and to enable them to live full social lives.

Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisors Special Course

We held the 5th Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisors Special Course on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of May, 2010; 43 people attended, and overtwo days of lecturers by nine instructors they were able to greatly increase their expertise in providing advice to help people achieve both mind and body health.

The certifying examination was held at the end of the course and those who passed were certified as Health Sciences of Mind and Body Advisors.
