The educational purpose of Graduate School of University of Human Arts and Sciences is to teach deeper special knowledge and to pursue human being interdisciplinary and comprehensively based on the purpose of the University of Human Arts and Sciences.
| The goal of health sciences of mind and body is to
provide us with knowledge for well-being in today's
complex age. Centered on the organic connection
between the human mind and body, it is an academic
area that entails interdisciplinary research into
'life','humanity', 'health', and 'mind', and aims
to create an integrated theory for these areas and to
fi nd scientifi c answers to the questions they pose. In addition to those areas that have been studied by the health sciences up to the present time, human sciences seeks to realize the comprehensive and interdisciplinary integration of a myriad of diff erent academic fields including life science, behavioral sciences, stress sciences, psychosomatic medicine, basic medicine, bioethics, and civilization studies. From within these fi elds, it attempts to scientifi cally elucidate the connection between the human mind and body, and also to ascertain the origins and mechanisms of living phenomena and adapt this knowledge to maintaining and improving human health. |

Throughout the long history of the evolution of life that began in space
with the birth of our planet, human beings have evolved through the
repeated actions of chance and inevitability to create culture and
civilization. Humans exist both mentally and physically, in mind and in
body, and in order to grasp an image of humanity as a whole we must
understand the various elements such as society, culture, and the
environment, which are interwoven and mutually influence each other.
Commensurate with the developments in scientifi c technology in recent years, in Japan we have been able to achieve a level of affl uence that is unprecedented in the history of our society. Conversely, problems that are derived from this affluence manifest themselves in various different forms. Within this kind of environment, people today are looking for their own reason for living; with healthy minds and bodies, humanity is seeking to build for the future the kind of affluent societies in which we can all peacefully coexist. Students at our University are deepening and broadening their expertise in their particular fields of work through the study of a broad spectrum of health-related disciplines, not just healthcare.
Our graduate students'research topics are extremely diverse and often cover a number of different disciplines, and they also come to their studies from an equally diverse range of perspectives. But what connects them all is the desire to help people live better lives. The research topics listed below provide a brief introduction into some of the investigations our students are conducting into the various phenomena that surround us to; their intent being to cast light on the organic connection between mind and body.
